The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is a public organization, whose duty is to carry out research and transfer activities in the main sectors of knowledge, to foster the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country. The Information Science and Technologies Institute (ISTI) is the largest ICT research institute of CNR, located in Pisa. The team participating in this project belongs to the High Performance Computing Laboratory of ISTI (HPC), consisting of about 20 researchers/PhD students, which conducts research in various areas of high performance and data-intensive computing. The research focus is on designing advanced solutions and scalable algorithms explicitly targeting emerging computing platforms such as clouds and many-cores architectures. The laboratory’s research funding comes through national, EC agencies, and industry project spanning many areas, including cloud computing, data mining and Web information retrieval.
